Astrology Market Size in India Women, Apps & VC Funding

How Indian Women Are Using Astrology Apps as Tools for Liberation

⏱️ 2 Mins Read

Scroll through Indian career and relationship forums today, and a fascinating strategy emerges that is rapidly expanding the astrology market size in India: young, educated women are using digital platforms to bypass conservative family pushback.

One anonymous user recently shared how she secured her parents’ blessing to move to Bengaluru for a tech job only after an app confirmed the timing was favorable.

This is not an isolated incident. By presenting their personal choices as unassailable cosmic wisdom, young Indian women are turning digital astrology into a tool for personal liberation, and driving what is expected to be a $1.8 billion astrology market size in India by 2030.

Astrology Market Size in India: AstroTalk Revenue and Market Dominance

The current market size of such apps is estimated at between $170 million and $190 million. There are dozens of apps operating in this digital astrology niche, but three main platforms capture the lion’s share of this market.

AstroTalk holds approximately 80% of the monetized mobile app market share, making it an absolute giant for paid astrologer calls and chats. When analyzing AstroTalk revenue, it is clear they dominate this sector.

Meanwhile, other astrology startups India like AstroSage grab an 80% market share in the sub-segment Kundli space. Daily Horoscope, AstroYogi, and GaneshaSpeaks have a strong foothold among young professionals and corporate users, successfully attracting significant venture capital and competing for AstroTalk funding.

The Data: Why Women Rely on Digital Astrology

A study conducted by the iMeUsWe App revealed that the young female population in India between 18 and 30 is increasingly taking guidance from astrology, not just as a belief but for structured guidance in key life decisions.

It showed that around 60.3% of the app’s total user base is women, who use the platform for guidance on career planning, relationship choices, and marriage decisions, often ignoring traditional parental guidance in favor of digital astrology.

The app data also highlighted the topics women most frequently seek guidance on: relationship-related concerns, marriage, job stability, children and pregnancy, family or in-law conflicts, and finance and property matters. “Nearly 70% of women’s consultations related to relationship or marriage decisions,” the study noted.

They are actively using these apps as daily decision advisors, instead of passively accepting fate.

They use the apps’ insights to validate choices regarding career switches, financial planning, and solo travel, allowing them to seek guidance without family interference and make independent choices.

Are Digital Astrology Apps Regulated in India?

After thorough research, I could not find any specific law to regulate these astrology apps that assign liability if any untoward incident happens. Astonishingly, these apps, which influence millions of people and hold a massive astrology market size in India, operate with practically no specific sector regulations.

However, these apps are regulated broadly as e-commerce platforms and tech intermediaries, as they also sell products on their dedicated stores. Most of these platforms include disclaimers in their Terms & Conditions stating that their services are purely for “entertainment purposes”.

The possibility of platforms collecting intimate personal data, including relationship anxieties, marriage fears, and career insecurities, and monetizing it beyond the initial consultation cannot be ruled out, as this digital astrology sector in India is unchecked by dedicated authorities so far.

The absence of specific rules leaves these apps with no strict obligations to maintain data privacy.

The majority of top apps are backed by foreign investors, which is another source of concern, especially without specific laws for applications dealing with millions of active, data-sharing users daily.
